Bronx, NY- On Thursday, December 10th a massive blaze ripped through a Bronx neighborhood. It took 200 firefighters roughly three hours to control the fire.
According to authorities the fire started in a Bronx home and rapidly spread to surrounding homes. The fire claimed 9 houses and displaced 89 people.
FDNY Chief Ferrier attributes part of mass damage ensued in the fire to the fact the homes were constructed with wood frames:
“One of the problems with the wood frame buildings is that it’s purely combustible. So everything burns — the furniture burns, the structural members burn, the roofing burns.”
The Red Cross is working with the residents unable to return to their homes. The Office of emergency management sent a warning to other residents urging them to close windows to avoid smoke inhalation.
