Brooklyn, NY- On Monday, December 14, 2015 three Brooklyn construction workers narrowly escaped serious injury after the ground beneath them caved in, trapping them in soil.
According to authorities work crews were preparing for an extension of a three story multi family row house in Williamsburg near the corner of Bedford Avenue. The crews were digging when the collapse occurred. The local fire department responded and rescued three workers who were trapped from the waist down.
Two of the three workers sustained minor injuries. One victim was transported to Bellevue yet is listed in stable condition.
The FDNY evacuated the building following the incident to determine if the structure is stable.
It is unclear at this time whether or not construction permits were issued for the building. NYC officials have been cracking down on construction sites throughout the city in an attempt to prevent construction site injuries like the Williamsburg collapse.
