Uber is in the midst of testing a new feature, designed to record when certain driver behaviors, including speeding, cutting corners, and braking abruptly.
New York is one of the cities involved in the testing. While critics claim the upgrade challenges the boundaries of driver privacy, many safety advocates are encouraged by the new technology and its potential to reduce the number of car crashes and pedestrian injuries in the city.
“There is a lot of work to be done to make the technology perfect in terms of identifying the events and determining what accurately leads to safer drivers,” Chris Lambert, Uber CTO.
