A 38-year-old man visiting a Connecticut adventure water park slipped between floating lily pads and fell into the water, where his foot caught on an exposed hook the operator had installed incorrectly. The deep wound became infected and led to nerve damage and complex regional pain syndrome. The defense suggested $125,000 to $200,000 was fair, but the jury awarded $13 million.
