Did you know that drivers of yellow medallion taxicabs and other for-hire vehicles are exempt from laws relating to car seats and seatbelts. It is therefore a parents responsibility to make sure your children are safe while travelling in taxis and other for-hire vehicles.
Drivers are required to allow passengers to install a car seat into their vehicle. Children under the age of 7 are permitted to sit on an adults lap, though this is proven by safety experts to be inadequate in the event of an accident, and is not recommended.
When taking taxi trips we recommended that you take along an infant seat or a booster, depending on the age of the child. If you are travelling away from home where you cannot bring along a car seat, call ahead and find a service that will provide one for you.
Don’t risk that 5 minute cab ride, travel safe, and always use the appropriate form of car seat for your children.
