$1,500,000 Settlement : Teaching Hospital Pays For Burn Caused During Surgery

Our 40-year-old client was diagnosed with breast cancer. After a course of chemotherapy, it was determined the best course of action was a full mastectomy. During the procedure, the surgeon allowed one of the medical students to participate and the student caused a burn on the surrounding tissue. The burn prevented the timely follow up radiation treatment needed to eradicate the cancer. The six-week delay in starting the radiation treatments put our client at a higher risk of the cancer recurring. Regrettably, that is exactly what happened. The case was settled shortly after starting the lawsuit for $1,500,000. The case was handled by Managing Partner Andrew Finkelstein with co-counsel.
