A ‘high wind watch’ or ‘high wind warning’ (both issued in NYC Monday, February 13th) should be taken seriously by New Yorkers. Wind watches or warnings are put into place when wind gusts could potentially (or are expected to) reach 40mph or higher for more than one hour OR when gusts are could potentially (or are expected to) reach 58mph or higher.
These strong gusts are capable of blowing down tree limbs, knocking down power lines, causing unsecured debris to take flight, and could potentially damage buildings and structures. Be sure anything stored outside is properly secured, if you’re driving be prepared to experience strong gusts, construction management should plan according, and pedestrians should take caution and remain aware of their surroundings.
