Santacon NYC is only a day a way and many state officials and concerned citizens are not very happy that Santa is coming to town.
What is Santacon? It’s in essence a bar crawl that has increased in popularity throughout the years. Masses of men and women dressed as Santa take to city streets and city pubs and bars.
While the premise of Santacon seems jolly enough government officials including City Comptroller Scott Stinger and State Senators urge participants and organizers to put in place guidelines to help reduce crime and personal injury.
Critics of the event site the vast number of intoxicated individuals, or “Santas” poses safety risks to residents and participants.
Santacon organizers have responded to critics by “tailoring Santacon each year” in an attempt to “mitigate its negative aspects.”
Unfortunately pedestrian-related injuries in New York City including pedestrian knock downs are a very real safety risk New Yorkers should be aware of. While consuming alcohol your ability to accurately assess a dangerous situation or respond in time to prevent one could very well be compromised. Please be safe this holiday season, drink responsibly!
