Annulment Attorneys

After a marriage annulment, it’s as if a marriage never happened. The Annulment Decree is retroactive, declaring a marriage legally invalid. Three common reasons for annulment are

•Fraud: something about the identity of one spouse may be misrepresented or concealed at the time of marriage. To be granted an annulment based on this, it would be wise to discontinue cohabitation as soon as you discover the fraud.

•Mental incompetence

According to annulment law, the innocent spouse can apply to the court for relief. He or she may be granted a share of the community property, spousal and/or child support, and payment of their attorney’s fees. However, they may not necessarily receive a full share of joint property or full spousal support payments. If that’s the case, it might be a good idea to petition for a divorce. Jacoby & Meyers also offers mediation services for couples who would prefer to resolve their divorce in a more amicable manner.
