Safety Tips for Memorial Day 2017

According to the forecast we’re in for a beautiful Memorial Day weekend in the greater NYC area. As you prepare to celebrate please keep the following safety tips in mind.

Travel: according to the National Safety Council’s predictions this weekend could result in an estimated 382 traffic related fatalities, and more than 40,000 traffic related injuries. Drivers, please drive distraction free and never get behind the wheel while impaired.

Fun in the sun: Food is a key element to most Memorial Day celebrations. If you are grilling be sure to serve properly cooked foods, anything too rare could easily result in food poisoning. Prior to cooking thoroughly clean your grill, and avoid any activities that could result in a burn injury, like smoking near a lit grill.

Never allow children to swim or play near water while unattended. Adults shouldn’t consume alcohol when swimming or boating.

If your four-legged friends are joining in on the celebrations be sure to provide them with plenty of water. Keep your dog and friends/family safe by taking time to properly train your dog. Dog bite injuries are often serious. As dog owners, we must take all necessary precautions to reduce the likelihood of injury.
