$11.1 Million Settlement Against Town Police

On an icy day when schools were closed, East Fishkill police officers told a 17-year-old junior driver to drive two other minors home, even though doing so violated New York’s graduated license law. The car crashed, and a teenager riding in the back seat suffered life-threatening injuries. After seven years of litigation, including a winning appeal, the insurers paid their full policy limits, totaling $11.1 million, just before jury selection.
