Behind every personal injury case that reaches a fair resolution is a body of work most clients never see: the motions, the legal research, and the written arguments that keep a claim moving forward and protect it from being cut short. That is where I spend my days.
As a Motions Attorney with Jacoby & Meyers, LLP, I handle the firm’s motion practice and litigation strategy, focusing on the complex procedural and legal issues that arise throughout the life of a case. My work is less about the courtroom moments people picture and more about the disciplined, detail-driven advocacy that makes those moments possible, and it is work I find deeply meaningful because it directly affects whether an injured person gets the day in court they deserve.
My Role at Jacoby & Meyers
At Jacoby & Meyers, my role is centered on the firm’s motion practice rather than day-to-day client contact. I draft and argue substantive motions across the full range a personal injury case can generate — dispositive motions, discovery motions, evidentiary applications, and motions in limine — and I conduct the legal research that gives those filings their force. In practical terms, that means I am often the attorney working to advance a case through the procedural and legal hurdles that stand between an injured client and a resolution on the merits.
A significant part of my work involves developing strategies to oppose motions that could seriously damage or end a client’s case, such as summary judgment motions or motions seeking dismissal of claims. When the opposing side asks a court to throw a case out before it is ever heard, the response has to be precise, well-researched, and persuasive.
I also help the firm with procedural challenges, ensuring compliance with court rules, litigation deadlines, and evidentiary requirements so that our clients’ claims stay on track and are fully preserved. It is a role that rewards attention to detail, strategic thinking, and a thorough command of civil procedure, and those are exactly the strengths I bring to the firm’s litigation team every day.
Cases I Support
The motions I handle span the areas of personal injury law that Jacoby & Meyers is known for. I routinely work on high-stakes matters involving:
- Motor vehicle collisions, where liability and damages are frequently contested through pretrial motions;
- Slip-and-fall and premises liability claims, which often turn on evidentiary and notice questions that must be argued carefully;
- Nursing home neglect and abuse cases, involving vulnerable clients and complex records; and
- Wrongful death claims, where the stakes for a grieving family could not be higher.
Across all of these case types, my focus is the same: analyzing the legal and procedural issues at play and crafting written advocacy that gives our clients the strongest possible position. Whether the matter involves a dispositive motion that could decide the outcome, an evidentiary dispute over what a jury will be allowed to hear, or a procedural challenge that threatens a deadline, my job is to make sure the argument on our side is thorough, well-supported, and difficult to overcome.
How My Work Serves Our Clients
Because my role is concentrated on legal research, writing, and motion practice, I am not typically the attorney a client speaks with about the details of their day-to-day case. That work is handled by our client-facing attorneys and staff, who keep clients informed and supported throughout their matter. My contribution happens alongside theirs in the pleadings, briefs, and arguments that carry a case forward.
I mention this because I think clients deserve a clear picture of how the firm works on their behalf. When you retain Jacoby & Meyers, you are not hiring a single lawyer; you are gaining a team, with each member contributing a particular strength. My part of that team effort is to protect the legal and procedural integrity of your case.
When an opposing party files a motion designed to weaken or dismiss a claim, I am one of the people working to make sure that effort does not succeed. The result our clients can expect from my work is straightforward: cases that are defended at every procedural turn and given a full, fair opportunity to be decided on their actual merits rather than dismissed on a technicality.
Experience and Representative Work
Much of what I find most rewarding about this practice is the intellectual and strategic challenge of it: taking a complicated legal or procedural problem and building a persuasive written argument that can genuinely change the course of a case. Over the course of my work at the firm, I have handled matters involving dispositive motions, evidentiary disputes, and a variety of procedural challenges, working to ensure that our clients’ claims are fully presented and adjudicated on their merits.
That has included developing arguments to oppose summary judgment motions and pursuing favorable rulings on dispositive motions, the kinds of filings that can make the difference between a case that proceeds and one that ends prematurely.
Each of these matters requires the same combination of careful legal research, close attention to the record, and a solid grounding in civil procedure. It is meticulous work, but it is the kind of work that quietly shapes outcomes, and I take real pride in doing it well.
Why I Practice Personal Injury Law
I chose this area of law because it allows me to help people from all walks of life during some of the most difficult periods they will ever face. An injury can upend a person’s finances, health, and sense of security in an instant, and the legal system that is supposed to help them can feel overwhelming and impersonal. I am motivated by the opportunity to advocate for injured individuals and to help move their cases toward the compensation and support they need to rebuild.
Even when my role keeps me behind the scenes, I never lose sight of the person at the center of each case and the responsibility that comes with representing them.
