During a sentencing on Tuesday, October 3rd, a New York City landlord (who earned a place on NYC’s “Landlord Watchlist” worst landlord list) found out he’d officially call Rikers Island home for the next year. He was convicted of multiple felony charges, including grand larceny.
After a two-year investigation, State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman brought criminal charges and civil suits against the landlord who, in addition to financial offenses, was accused of intentionally creating hazardous and unsafe living conditions for rent-stabilized tenants.

Among other responsibilities, owners must provide and maintain security measures, heat, hot and cold water, and good lighting. – NYC.gov
