A Brooklyn dentist is facing charges after allegedly hiring four unlicensed people to perform a number of dental procedures, including fillings and root canals. It is not clear yet if any patients suffered adverse effects at the hands of the unlicensed workers. The dentist, along with each of the unlicensed workers, is facing felony fraud charges.
The Better Business Bureau offers the following tips for patients who are unsure of their rights, or are questioning their doctor’s credentials:
- Doctors must provide you with all the information you need to give informed consent to a procedure or treatment, including any potential risks and benefits.
- To check if a doctor has a currently valid license, search the Department of Education database here or call (518) 474-3817.
- To find out what disciplinary actions have been taken against a doctor, you may search the Department of Health, Office of Professional Medical Conduct database, or call (800) 663-6114.
