In early 2016 the New York State Comptroller published the findings of an investigation into state Nursing Homes. The findings outlined the failures of the state in protecting the wellbeing of nursing home residents.
The president of a New York City senior citizen advocacy group recently spoke out, calling the State’s fines “almost worthless.”
The State Comptroller’s report revealed the State was in fact conducting the expected number of surveys and inspections but failed to properly use enforcement 85% of the time.
What does this mean for nursing home residents?
Now that the issue(s) have been brought to light government officials and concerned citizens have taken note and are taking action. In an attempt to put pressure on facilities with sub-par conditions, and to protect the rights of nursing home residents, Jacoby & Meyers formed the Nursing Home Abuse and Neglect Elder Law Lawyers Group.
