Storm Jonas Wreaks Havoc in NY & NJ, A Young Mother & Baby Amongst the Storm’s Victims

winter storm

Warnings of a massive snow storm heading to the Northeast began weeks ago. News channels and local officials urged residents to prepare by taking the steps many North Easterners have grown accustomed to: stocking up on batteries, food & water, staying off the road, helping to clear sidewalks and walkways, etc.

Even with warning and preparation the storm still proved to be deadly.

Of those affected was a young family in New Jersey. A father of two was attempting to shovel out the family vehicle while his wife and children sat in the car, an attempt to avoid frigid temperatures.  After roughly twenty minutes of shoveling the man realized his wife and two children were unconscious.

Unbeknownst to the family mounds of snow blocked the exhaust system. As the car ran carbon monoxide fumes flooded the car.

The young mother, along with the couple’s one year old son died as a result of carbon monoxide poisoning. Their other child, a three year old girl is listed in very critical condition.

According to the Associated Press 31 lives were lost in the blizzard. We send our condolences to all those effected.
