On Sunday, August 16th a small plane crashed into railroad tracks on Long Island, not far from Bethpage.
According to officials the plane took off from Gabreski Airport in Westhampton Beach and was traveling to Morristown, NJ.
At some point during the flight, the pilot reported to Republic Airport in Farmingdale that the aircraft was having trouble maintaining altitude. Not long after, the engine stalled and the plane hit a crossing signal.
The pilot died in the accident, his passenger was taken to an area hospital with non life threating injuries.
