NBC 4 New York’s I-Team recently conducted a study on NYC playgrounds. The results are startling.
Repair orders are categorized based on priority. Trip hazards, defective playground equipment, sharp fence edges, and other issues would be considered an “immediate attention” work order, yet according to the study, some of these work orders stay open for well over a year.
In the I-Team’s analysis “immediate attention” work order’s take on average 36 days to close. According to New York City Comptroller Scott Stringer there has been a 53% increase in playground-related lawsuits against the city in the last decade.
