CAR BAN IN CENTRAL PARK

Cyclists, Runners, and Pedestrians can officially enjoy a car free Central Park north of 72nd street. The newly imposed car ban began Monday, June 29, 2015.

The vehicle ban was announced in early June by Mayor Bill De Blasio. The aim is to create a safer park for those on foot or on bicycles.

Pedestrian fatalities have decreased in NYC, perhaps partially due to De Blasio’s Vision Zero initiative. The goal of Vision Zero is to help eliminate traffic deaths in the city.
