A 7-mile dangerous Queens boulevard is finally receiving much needed safety upgrades. This hazardous stretch of road has claimed the lives of 38 New Yorkers and injured 448 from 2003 to 2013.
The upgrades will require multiple phases, beginning with the 1.3 mile span from Roosevelt Ave to 73rd street. The new and improved roadway will have extra space for pedestrians and cyclists.
The project will also adjust the flow of traffic to reduce the number of drivers repeatedly switching lanes. This will in turn slow down drivers and create a safer environment for pedestrians on foot.
