Woman dies after being hit by Wind-Blown Plywood in Greenwich Village

Our condolences are with the family of a woman who was struck and killed last week, after a piece of plywood fencing was blown from a construction site near to where she was walking.

The incident happened around 5:30 pm as Ms. Nguyen, 37, walked along the sidewalk in front of 175 West 12th Street. A security fence surrounding a 200-unit condominium construction, came loose in the wind, and struck the woman, slamming her against a wall. The plywood was approximately four feet by eight feet tall.

The New York Buildings Department stated that it had issued a full stop-work order for the site, and cited violations to the contractor, for failure to safeguard property.
