The NYPD has given out 452 tickets to pedestrians for jaywalking in just the first two months of 2014, accounting for a 900% increase from the same time period in 2013.

Police Commissioner, Bill Bratton sat down with WPIX last week to talk about his first months back at the head of the NYPD. In his interview, he had little sympathy for New Yorkers receiving tickets for jaywalking, telling them to “get over it.”

Some residents are upset that the NYPD is issuing tickets to jaywalkers instead of trying to make certain intersections safer with turn signals and other safety measures. Others have said “Everyone gets around this way. It is a quality-of-life.”
