A boiler alert has been issued for those living and working in Downtown Jersey City. Those residents are advised to boil water before use and consumption as a result of a water main break.
United Water officials are advising the downtown section of Jersey City from the Hoboken border to Grand Street from Interstate 78 to the waterfront. The Newport area is not included.
Customers should boil their tap water for at least one minute before: drinking, cooking, making ice, washing dishes, brushing teeth, washing food, feeding pets or other consumption. Water does not need to be boiled for showering and washing clothes.
